NASA will use blockchain to verify its next Moon landing.

In February 2024, NASA, in collaboration with Lonestar, a computing startup based in Florida, and the Isle of Man, will dispatch a payload to the Moon.

This payload will include “data cubes” that will be utilized to store crucial information.

After the cubes return to Earth, researchers will validate the data they contain by utilizing blockchain technology.

The objective is to employ the same blockchain technology during NASA’s second crewed mission, Artemis 3, scheduled for launch in 2025, to definitively and irrefutably confirm the presence of humans on the Moon.

In November 2024, NASA’s Artemis mission will embark on its second phase with the launch of Artemis 2.

Although this mission will involve a crew, the four astronauts on board will orbit the Moon before returning to Earth, rather than landing on its surface.

The purpose of Artemis 2 is to function as the conclusive trial before the U.S. government advances with Artemis 3, which seeks to land humans on the surface of the Moon once again.

During the Artemis voyages, Lonestar and the Isle of Man are joining forces to spearhead groundbreaking lunar storage systems, as part of the broader scientific missions.

These innovative systems will utilize solar power and eliminate the need for additional infrastructure, paving the way for long-term storage solutions on the Moon.

NASA Blockchain Verification: Digital Stamps and Lunar Presence for Future Moon Landings

The BBC’s Science Focus report states that there will be a test involving the creation of digital stamps, referred to as “digital franking,” which individuals will store in the data cubes on the Moon.

These stamps will be verified through blockchain technology back on Earth, ensuring their integrity and completeness.

An intriguing consequence of the blockchain’s immutable nature is that future astronauts landing on the Moon could utilize the data cubes to establish their presence on the lunar surface.

The blockchain has the potential to authenticate their interactions and activities, potentially debunking any conspiracy theories related to future Moon landings.

Although, In an interview with Science Focus, the head of innovation at Digital Isle of Man revealed the challenges faced by NASA in refuting claims of fabrication regarding the six crewed Moon landings between 1969 and 1972.

Although the blockchain cannot actively eliminate conspiracy theories regarding previous lunar landings, it is ready to function as an undeniable record for the forthcoming individuals who step onto the surface of the Moon.
