Binance donates $3 million worth of BNB to support victims of the Morocco earthquake.

Binance, a prominent cryptocurrency exchange, has made a significant commitment to aid relief efforts in response to the devastating earthquake that struck Morocco on September 8.

With at least 2,000 fatalities reported in Marrakech, the country’s fourth-largest city,

Binance has pledged to allocate millions of dollars’ worth of BNB tokens to support those affected.

In an announcement on September 11, Binance stated that it will airdrop up to $3 million in BNB to users residing in the impacted regions.

The earthquake, classified as a “major” event with a magnitude of 7 on the Richter scale,

has deeply affected the Moroccan people.

Changpeng Zhao, the founder and CEO of Binance, expressed his sympathy and solidarity with the country during this difficult time.

In addition, Changpeng Zhao, the founder and CEO of Binance,

urged users who were not directly affected by the earthquake to play an active role in distributing the allocated funds to the individuals and communities most in need.

This call for solidarity and collective action aims to ensure that the aid reaches those who require it the most.

“For Moroccan users who receive these donations but are unimpacted by the earthquake, we ask them to pass the funds on to those most in need.”

Using a pre-existing proof-of-address protocol conducted prior to the earthquake,

Binance has announced its intention to identify users residing in the affected region.

Specifically, users located in the Marrakech-Safi province, the area most impacted by the disaster,

will receive a direct allocation of $100 worth of BNB tokens into their Binance accounts.

This targeted approach ensures that the aid reaches the individuals in the most affected region,

providing them with immediate support during this challenging time.

Cryptocurrencies for Disaster Relief: Binance Facilitates Contributions through Public Wallet Address

To further support the relief efforts, Binance has set up a public wallet address where contributions can be made in various cryptocurrencies such as BNB, Bitcoin, Ethereum, USD Coin, Tether, and USDC.

This initiative follows a similar aid program conducted by Binance earlier this year in response to the devastating earthquakes that struck the Turkey-Syria border region.

During that campaign, Binance distributed $100 worth of BNB tokens through airdrops.

The use of cryptocurrencies for providing aid and charitable contributions has been gaining traction.

In the aftermath of the Turkish-Syrian earthquake, several prominent players in the Web3 space,

including The Sandbox, Bitget, Tether, and, leveraged crypto to support affected communities.

By harnessing the power of cryptocurrencies, these organizations aim to make aid more accessible and expedite the process of assisting those affected by disasters.
